A Description of the Most Common Types of Computer communications methods
Computer Networks are collections of computers laced to each other to facilitate communication to allot assets and information. They can be linked using optical fibers, Ethernet, wireless LAN, to name a some options. Wireless technologies include microwaves, satellites, radio or cellular technology, Bluetooth, etc.
Wired technology uses twisted-pair wire, coaxial cables or fiber optics. Twisted-pair wires and optical fiber cables are positioned in buildings to enable local area networks |LANs}.These cables are arranged in position by dragging them along a path which could cause them to twist as well as make it difficult to pull a lot simultaneously. It could wreck the wires; hence a cable puller can be utilized by installers which can tow a assorment of wires one time with same force applied to each on a given route. Cable pullers which are dependable, lightweight toutilize, allow these to be towed whilemaintaining the exact amount of strain so the wires aren’t wrecked in the process. You can obtain a list of them here http://www.cablepuller.org.
Networks are classified based on the paths they cover, usage, and access rights. So we can have local area networks (LAN) which are confined to a building to bigger usage space networks like wide area networks (WAN) to metropolitan area networks (MAN), personal area networks (PAN), these being the more common ones.
PAN is used for communications between personal computers, printers, telephones and can include wired or wireless connections. LAN spans a house, office or small collections of buildings like a school. It can also be wired or wireless. A MAN connects local areas and usually doesn’t spread beyond a city. A WAN covers national boundaries; hence it spans a bigger area.
The Intranet can be accessed only by valid users within a organization. It is the internal network of an organization. An extranet is likethe intranet except that it has associations to few other valid entities not in the organization like other users. The Internet is the World Wide Web linking all available organizations be it academic, government, public networks, etc.
The basic building blocks of networks to link each node in it are Network interface cards, bridges, hubs, switches and|or routers. A network interface card is a hardware device that allows computers to communicate over a network by providing physical access and an addressing scheme using MAC addresses. Repeaters get signals which it transmits at a higher level so it can travel longer distances while maintaining quality. Hubs consist of many ports and are used to transmit packets which arrive at each, especially for broadcasting. Bridges connect multiple networks and links ports to an address and hence transmits data to that particular port for which address it is sent. Switches usually have many ports and filters and dispatches data between ports based on the MAC packet addresses Routers determine the next best path to transmit packets between networks.
The subject on networking is vast, we hope you liked this summary and have a basic idea of what goes into linking us all jointly via the web.
