Popular Shopping Districts in Japan

The land of the rising sun is a place of trends and rituals, some that most visitors are not very familiar with. Travelers here would do well to merge as best as possible with the locals, and do the many of the activities that have grown well into the Japanese culture. Watch a sumo wrestling match, try freshly cut sushi, ride the subway and of course, splurge on shopping treats in this land of great fashion!

Window shopping in Japan is a very popular activity for visitors because of the amazing shopping that one can do in the area. And when you talk about shopping, you will invariably talk about one of the most popular shopping spot in the world – Tokyo! This capital city of Japan gives visitors everything and anything that you may need, and it is also very easy for travelers to shop here even without understanding Japanese because of the many districts in Tokyo that specializes in certain products.

Tourists who want a taste of the night life in Tokyo should visit the Roppongi district. The district is famous for the many restaurants, bars and night clubs located in the area. This district, along with the adjacent Azabu, Hiroo and Akasaka, is home to a large community of expats. As such, most of the embassies are also located here. Roppongi has also become known for being a cultural center mainly because of the many museums that are in the area.

The Harajuku district, located around the Harajuku station, is the place to go if you want to see the latest in true Japanese kawaii fashion. Go during the weekend, where hundreds of teenagers flock the area all prepped up in their respective individual tastes. What are they doing you may wonder? They are simply meeting up with their friends and showing off their personalities! They are also very open to being photographed, so travelers will invariably come here as well. To shop, head to Takeshita Dori or Takeshita Street, where you can find numerous fashionable shops and trendy boutiques along with used clothing stores.

Finally, one of the most well known shopping region in Tokyo is the Shinjuku area. This region, which is located within the surrounding area of Shinjuku Station, is filled with many shops and department stores. There are also many entertainment establishments that dot the district. Tourists can shop at huge subterranean malls and electronic shops. All in all, Tokyo is the place to be to experience original Japanese street fashion!
